Early White Vienna kohlrabi seeds

SKU: E22072

What appears to be an alien-like vegetable is something much more amazing. We first grew kohlrabi a few years ago, and we continue to grow it each year. Kohlrabi is part of the brassica family so it thrives in cool weather. You can think of it as an above-ground reverse turnip.

Early White kohlrabi produces a heavy, juicy, and sweet round bulb. If picked tender, the sweetness is at its peak. If left to grow larger, the sweetness does subside slightly, but it's still delicious. The best way to describe the flavor of kohlrabi is a combination of cabbage, broccoli, and apple.

We enjoy this cut-into match sticks with raw apples, some yogurt, and a little dill. It's light, refreshing, and healthy. We also use the leaves in place of kale for crispy kohlrabi "chips". These are great for starting early while you are waiting for warmer weather. We plant these and by the time they are ripe, we pull them and use the empty hole to transplant some of our warm-weather vegetables.
