Black Spanish Radish seeds

SKU: X773250

Black Spanish radishes are easy to grow, delicious, refreshing, and loaded with health benefits! Black radishes have their origins in Europe dating back to the 1500s, Both round and elongated varieties are available, and these seeds will help produce the round ones. Black radishes have a spicy edge to their flavor, similar to that of horseradish. Because of this, they are best used thinly sliced, chopped up, or shredded and balanced out with other sour and sweet flavors (i.e. lemon zest, balsamic vinegar, sugar, etc.).  Black radishes lend themselves to both raw and cooked applications with grace. You can also slice these thin on a mandolin and dehydrate them to make healthy radish chips (these are so good!). These are also delicious sliced thin and pickled Japanese style.

The black radish belongs to the brassica family. They thrive in cooler weather, and you can plant them twice a growing season. Sow these in early spring and again in the fall. If you practice square foot gardening, these are a great way to sneak in a little more veg where you may have some gaps to fill as they are compact and won't shade out any other vegetables. You can grow these in containers, just make sure these are spaced out so you can let the radishes reach optimal size.
