Big Boston Bibb Lettuce seeds
Big Boston lettuce is a buttercrunch-type lettuce. Like butter crunch, it shares the same strong but dainty leaves. Big Boston is a larger variety, forming larger heads and longer leaves. The inside of the head will reveal a cream-colored buttery-flavored heart. This variety also shares the same buttery flavor but is a little bit sweeter.
This variety goes back about 100 years and is another valued heirloom. The heads sit lower to the ground with a 12-inch circumference, with heads that can reach 10 - 12 inches high. These are great for salads, garnishes, lettuce wraps, and sandwiches. Fish also pairs well with this on account of its naturally occurring buttery flavor.
These do great in raised beds or containers. They can grow in partial to full sun. Harvest from the bottom up for a continuous harvest of lettuce throughout the spring and summer.
