Rattlesnake Pole Beans
These flavorful beans are a popular heirloom to grow on account of their heat-loving nature. They earned their name by the purple striations that run along with the long green pods. As the beans grow, they will wrap around their vines much like that of a snake.
The pods can grow very long, anywhere from 6"to 8" inches. Prior to the bean pods forming, you will see brilliant purple flowers, that are great at attracting pollinators to your garden. The pods are exceptionally tender, and the beans are popular in soups and stews. The tender pods will taste similar to a snap pea, but once mature, the beans themselves taste similar to pinto beans but with nutty and subtle fruity notes.
