Catskill Brussels Sprout seeds
Catskill Brussels Sprouts is an heirloom dwarf variety of Brussels sprouts that dates back to the 1940s. Being a dwarf variety doesn't mean small yields, however. Catskill Brussels sprouts produce sturdy stalks that produce a massive amount of sprouts that grow up to 2" in diameter! The base of the plant is loaded with thick clusters of sprouts. The stalk narrows as it gets to the top. Catskill Brussels sprouts are a lighter green color and a flavor that is similar to cabbage, but richer and more well-rounded.
They love the cold frigid weather. Like other varieties, these can tolerate temperatures as cool as 0º (F). These can be grown during the winter so they can be harvested in spring, although the flavor is sweeter when grown from the fall into the winter as the cooler weather can change the flavor to one more favorable. These can be grown in containers and brought in if you have temperatures below. Equally, they can be covered with a tarp or moved into a garage. Catskill is slightly more quick to mature than other varieties.
